Subject: [Tweeters] Samish River area wetland-enhancement project

Some info on the site about which I disparaged in my post about what I saw last Friday, along Bayview-Edison Rd. enroute to West Ninety.

Good deihl ! Thanks , Alex. I had pessimistically been thinking it was just going to become another field of corn or worse, a development of some sort. This gives hope to us birders, but I do wonder how much of the property will be used for hunting - hopefully, none... there is enough bird-hunting land west of this site at the West Ninety :-)

Barb,
Thanks for sharing your adventure . The site near the Samish River that you describe as ?a lot of snags pulled out of the ground in the once redtail and harrier-strewn fields to the south of the Samish River? is actually a WDFW restoration site. Here is what a WDFW employee wrote a few weeks ago, ?The Samish River property that you mentioned is our Samish River Unit. It is a property that we own the fee title and the Natural Resources Conservation Service owns the conservation easement. We are currently implementing a wetland enhancement project on the site. This project includes development of wetland swales, ponds and raised planting areas. There will also be placement of root wads and perch poles on the site to provide other habitat features.
