Hello Tweets,

If you haven't already heard, there is a sort of invasion going on
across the U.S. Common Ground-doves are, for whatever reason,
wandering right now. The incursion has mainly been focused in the
Great Lakes region, with several ground-doves popping up in meadows
and especially beach dunes, in Wisconsin and perhaps and couple other
surrounding states (though the most recent one just yesterday was
sadly a window-strike in Illinois). There is an outlier, though, that
is currently entertaining birders in Yachats, Oregon (interestingly,
this dove been likened more to an "Eastern" than a "Western" form.
What does this mean? I don't know, but it sounds quite intriguing to
me). With all these doves flying around, who's to say that one won't
show up in our state? This might be a bit of a stretch (and probably
out on a limb), but crazier things have happened with birds. (Windust
Park Variegated Flycatcehr in 2008, anyone?) Good places to look might
be in Ocean Shores or similar coastal dune places, or open spaces in
southern Washington, or even - you guessed it - Neah Bay! Who knows
where (or if) one will show up. Just the messenger! Bird on! And who
knows, maybe you'll find a Common Ground-Dove. Somewhere. If you're
lucky..

Good birding, Joshua Glant
