Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 3. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

A COMMON GRACKLE is now being seen in Hines. On August 31 a BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER was south of Bandon along New River at the mouth of 4-mile Creek. On
September 1 a RUFF was at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

Heavy migrations are now passing with shorebirds the most conspicuous with a
surge of BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS and WHIMBRELS during the week. Early MEW GULLS
are now being seen. The first night movement of SWAINSON?S THRUSHES were
reported during the week. On September 1 at least 2000 SWIFTS were at
Chapman School in Portland.

On August 31 an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at Wedderburn in Curry County.
That day a SAY?S PHOEBE was on the North Spite of Coos Bay. An AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen August 30 at the south jetty of the Siuslaw River. A
LARK SPARROW was seen that day at the Science Center on Yaquina Bay. The
Whalen Island SNOWY EGRET continues at Sand Lake. A WILLET was at Seaside
September 1.

During the week two COMMON TERNS, two AVOCETS, and two SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS were on Sauvie Island. An AVOCET continues at Baskett Slough NWR.
On September 2 an early GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was at Ankeny NWR.

On September 1 a flock of 17 SCRUB JAYS was in Sisters.
