At around 11:00 am I looked for shorebirds in the small bay to the right of the Flushing Channel and saw 3 large plovers. They were quite a ways back in the bay but I could see the long winged look through the scope. The glare from the sun prevented a better look. I had left my camera in the car so I went to retrieve it and when I returned two had left. I walked along the edge of the lake and when I was half the way to the end I set my scope as I got on the bird it flew. I tried to pick it up with with the binos but lost it. It must have flown over the trees and toward the river. I have no idea what species of golden plover they were but no doubt about the wing length ruling out black-bellied and the size and shape ruling out killdeer.
