Tweets,

Today 30 of us enjoyed a great day at Nisqually. The day started out
overcast with a threat of rain but the skies soon turned partly sunny with
light breezes...a perfect fall day. We had a 12.1 high tide at 8:12 so lots
of mud at the restoration area.

We started with an AMERICAN BITTERN at the visitor center and it got better
from there! (A BITTERN was still at the pond at 12:30 when I left).

We decided to walk through the orchard and hit a nice fall out of Warblers.
Between the orchard and the willows across the road we had several YELLOW
WARBLERS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, BLACK
CAPPED CHICKADEE, and NASHVILLE WARBLERS, as well as WILLOW FLYCATCHERS.
DOWNEY WOODPECKERS also were in the area and they would be through the
wooded areas of the refuge. There must have been a DOWNEY WOODPECKER
convention on the refuge today. They were everywhere!

Out in the reclamation area we had KILLDEER, LEAST and WESTERN SANDPIPERS,
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER. Other birds seen (not by me)
included LONG-BILLED CURLEW, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS.

We did get good looks at VIRGINIA RAIL and WILSON'S SNIPE inside the
boardwalk where the WATERTHRUSH had been seen (note the past tense).

For the day I had 56 species and now have 135 for the year. The NASHVILLE
WARBLER was new for the year. The only mammal I saw was a COYOTE.

Until next week....
