My dad and I just returned from a great week of birding in the Puget Sound,
Olympic Peninsula, and South Shore areas. I want to thank everyone for
their incredibly detailed and helpful responses to my query about birding
the Oyhut Game Range in Ocean Shores. We were able to find and bird that
location with little trouble, and had a great time doing so. It was ironic
that the nemesis bird discussion started up just as I missed Pacific
Golden-Plover for the umpteenth time at the Game Range. That bird is just
one of many great reasons to return. Highlights from the trip are below:

9/21 - Lake Crescent Lodge -- 35 Vaux's Swift, 1 Barred Owl.
9/22 - Neah Bay -- 1 Rhinoceros Auklet, four warbler species
(Orange-crowned, Yellow, Black-throated Gray, and Townsend's), +.
9/22 - Wa'atch River Valley -- 41 Cackling Geese. I had a blast birding the
Neah Bay area. It was a really exciting place, as it truly felt like
anything could show up at any time. Would love to spend some more time
there sometime soon.
9/24 - Sunrise and adjacent trails, Mount Rainier -- 1 Sooty Grouse, 1
Prairie Falcon, 1 Clark's Nutcracker, 28 Mountain Chickadee, 7 Townsend's
Solitaire, 3 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch, 4 Cassin's Finch, I also enjoyed some
great life mammals up there, including Mountain Goat, American Pika, and
Yellow-pine Chipmunk.
9/25 - Oyhut Game Range -- at least two Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Red
Knot, 1 'Myrtle' Warbler, and incredible numbers of waterfowl, including
75+ Greater White-fronted Geese.
9/25 - Ocean Shores STP -- 2 juvenile Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Caspian Tern.
9/25 - Aberdeen -- 1 Bushtit, 1 Western Scrub-Jay.

Probably the most exciting birding on the trip came on the two Westport
Pelagics held over the weekend, the reports from which I'm sure will be
posted shortly.

Best,
