Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 1. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On September 27 a SMITH?S LONGSPUR was at Flores Lake. Two TENNESSEE
WARBLERS were at Arizona Beach State Park September 26. That day a
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Ophir and another at Gold Beach. A TROPICAL
KINGBIRD was seen that day at Pistol River. On September 23 a PRAIRIE
WARBLER was at Summer Lake. A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was at Fields
September 27. Another was at Benson Pond the same day. On September 30 a
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and a BROWN THRASHER were at Benson Pond.

Heavy migrations were noted during the week especially TURKEY VULTURES and
sparrows.

On September 23 an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the North Spit of Coos Bay.
A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was reported September 26 at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River. The two SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS continue at the mitigation
area near the Astoria Airport.

Up to 75 SNOW GEESE are now on Sauvie Island. On September 26 a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR was at Broughton Beach near the Portland Airport. A ROCK WREN was
seen September 30 in SW Portland. Fifteen EARED GREBES and 1155 SHOVELERS
were seen September 24 on the Sheridan Sewage Ponds. A WHITE-FACED IBIS was
at Fern Ridge Reservoir September 26. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Grants
Pass September 28.
