Discovery Park was pretty lively today with northbound migrants. A BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER (singing male) was the first bird I encountered at the north parking lot. This was my easily my earliest for wWA, beating my previous best of April 13. Similarly, I later encountered a NASHVILLE WARBLER the was also my earliest in 40+ years of birding in wWA, beating an April 15th bird long ago. While pishing this bird into view, a BARRED OWL flew by within 10 ft of me amid a commotion of passerines. It perched for some nice photos, included in the EBird report. Last but not least, a CHIPPING SPARROW was also of note in a small sparrow flock.
