Hello Tweeters,

Friday had to be a NW obligatory "Sun-day", when it is too nice to stay at
work. So my wife and I headed to nearby Seward Park, hoping to avoid
Friday traffic snarls compounded by Mariners opening day. By 2:00pm the
old growth forest was buzzing and beeping with the sounds of spring, though
not so easy spot in the newly leaved tree tops or in the thickening
undergrowth. Growing a bit tired and ready to head back to downtown, a
flash of red flew up to a tree along the trail. One quick look, it had a
red head, and sped off into the deeper forest! A path opened up just a
few steps away and we found our very first (life bird) Red Breasted
Sapsucker, high up in the tree canopy plumbing away. Soon another joined
to make a pair. For 30 minutes in a park, in the middle of city, time
seemed to stop and wonder arrived. 2 Flickers tailed them from tree to
tree and soon a the rasping calls of humming birds too far away to see.
