We've had quite the chorus the past few weeks, differing songs and chirps
coming from the new pond. I was never out there to get any visual on just
who was singing what, until this morning I accidentally found one spotted
frog, in a portion on our pond near the drain. It appears by all photos
I've checked online, to be a Spotted Frog, and there are large numbers of
eggs, growing larger, ever so slowly in different locations of this man
made pond.
We have at this time, four small Koi fish, and in a week we have been
offered some free large Koi. Now my concern is that maybe we should not
have any Koi, just keep what we already got, and not replace them.
I have not noticed any disturbance of the eggs so far, and am not sure if
I have more than one species of frog eggs, as I know we have the little
tree frogs all over as well.
This is our first time with a large pond, and since our goal is for the
natives, I need to know if the Koi are going to be a problem for them. We
are talking about a second smaller pond without any waterfall, and wonder
if that would suffice for future frogs, and salamanders, if we are so
fortunate to have these fellows do a repeat performance.
