This morning outside my workplace near downtown Seattle, I traced an odd
chip note to a juvenile Junco foraging in a small green space. I was
stunned to see one so early, and was doubting myself a little, until I saw
an adult come and feed it.

The Burke's nest records show an early date of April 11. Based on one
source, typical incubation and fledging periods are 13 and 12 days. That
would suggest this bird probably came from an egg laid before that early
date. I'm now curious if the early arrival of migratory birds will be
mirrored with early nesting.
