Delia and I swim in Andrews Bay when it's warm, so we've informally kept track of the Seward Park Parakeets.? This year we've seen no Parakeets.? Last year there was, we thought, only one.??The misery of being a lone psittacine? I can hardly imagine.? The year before that they were down to three.
In their prime there were quite a few and included Mitred and Crimson-fronted Parakeets, Aratinga genus species from the high country of the Andes and Central America respectively, I think, so closely related.

Some may be glad that an invasive species didn't get going, but since the US has been so mean to Psittacines, extincting the Carolina Parakeet and extirpating the Thick-billed Parrot, I feel like we?could use?an invasive Psittacine.
It was?good seeing the Red-crowned Parrots and Green Parakeets seemingly doing ok in suburbia down in the Rio Grande valley last November.? That Red-crowned is one gorgeous bird.

PS?? We did see a Tree Swallow the other day, flying over our heads, so maybe Kevin Li's Martin boxes on the south side of the Bay are being used.?? The Barn Swallows that used to nest up from the bay? in the Seward Park neighborhood are gone for two years now, as is typical of historical Barn Swallow sites in these parts of Seattle
