Hi Bill and Tweeters,

In addition to the Bar-tailed Godwit at Bottle Beach that Bill posted about this morning, I believe that I saw the possible Laughing Gull mentioned by Steve Giles in a post on Friday. After a Peregrine Falcon chased away most of the shorebirds, including the godwit, I shifted my focus to the gulls. One was about the size of the Ring-billed Gulls, but with an all black bill, black legs, mostly black primary tips with just one white spot per side, white chest and belly, a dark smudge behind the eye region, and I think (not certain) the white eye ring around the rear portions of the upper and lower lids. I'll post photos of both in a few minutes on eBird. They are both pretty poor quality, but should be good enough for an ID. I took the photos with my phone via the scope; it was overcast and a sea breeze kept on covering my lens with a layer of mist, so it looks foggy. A fellow birder (Shelly?) has a better photo of the Bar-tailed Godwit that she will also post on eBird.

Good birding,

Lonnie Somer
