I suggest this is a very bad idea. The presence of the nets as you describe would not "absorb the impact" as you suggest. It would more likely entangle the birds and many would likely die unless you are present all the time to extract them for the nets. It might leave you open to legal problems because the use of mist nets without a permit to catch migratory birds is illegal.

I use a product called CollidEscape (CollidEscape.org) on windows. Although it slightly reduced incoming light, it did not substantially alter the view of the outside from within. Most important it substantially reduced the number of window collisions. Also important, I applied it to windows and nine years later it still functioned without damage or need for replacement.
