Several people have chimed in that it is, indeed, a Hairy woodpecker.

Subject: Hairy or Downy?

This bird seems larger than a Downy woodpecker, smaller than a Hairy. Its bill seems to be somewhat larger than a Downy's. ?It has spots on its white tail feathers. ?My feeling is that it's a Downy.
