Thanks to all who gave gentle, but discouraging, info about swifts in the Hood river area. The next day some swallows provided useful scale, and while these seem to be large and vigorous Vaux's , they are certainly that. Ah well. Sometimes I am guilty of transforming the ordinary into the fantastic, when the most ordinary of birds is, after all, pretty darn fantastic. Thanks again, and the river there is quite invigorating, should you find yourself overheated.
