Subject: [Tweeters] A fair day in Wesport

Today I went out to Wesport to enjoy some outer coast birding. All in all,
it was a good day, but I dipped on seeing the Bar-tailed Godwit at both
Bottle Beach and the marina, despite seeing hundreds of Marbled Godwits. As
it was low tide all the birds were scattered, so perhaps the Bar-tailed was
present but just in a spot I couldn't see it? No matter how hard I tried I
couldn't turn any of those Marbleds into a Bar-tailed! Oh well, not as if
one won't pop up in WA again in the future. I did manage to get 2 Wandering
Tattlers at the jetties off Nettie Rose Drive (just west of the marina)
along with hundreds of Heermann's, California, and Western Gulls, plus
Brandt's Cormorants. After checking Bottle Beach twice without success I
went to Grays Harbor NWR and hung out on the Sandpiper Trail until the tide
came back in. Hundreds if not thousands of peeps but none really
identifiable (Leasts and Westerns were the only ones I could ID) due to
distance and heat rising from the ground, so all the peeps were blurry!

Oh well, the tattlers were a great consolation prize and one of my target
lifers (the other being the godwit). With several new additions I got my
year list to over 200 and added several new birds to my Grays Harbor County
list, including Eurasian Collared-dove, Brewer's Blackbird, and Steller's
Jay just by driving around town, and an Osprey flew over at Grays Harbor
NWR. All in all it was a great day and once the fog cleared up the weather
couldn't be beat!
