I have heard of government agencies inoculating wildlife against rabies by putting out baits laced with vaccine. Does anyone know if Washington, or any of its counties or cities, is doing this? I remember last summer, walking the trails at Madrona Trails, and finding numerous piles of grayish-white powder that my dog tried to lap up.

You are entirely correct - any mammal can acquire and pass on rabies.

It is a really good idea to not handle wildlife.

Thanks to excellent vaccination and public education programs rabies deaths
of humans in North America are rare.

We'd certainly like to keep it that way.
