Though not avian-related, I thought that you all might be interested to
know that "Dougsley", the UW's Corpse Flower currently residing at
Seattle's Volunteer Park Conservatory, is predicted to bloom today, and the
Conservatory is staying open into the evening for the event. Corpse
Flowers, which take 7-10 years to bloom, release powerful odors during the
bloom reminiscent of Limberger cheese, rotting fish, sweaty socks, etc. to
attract nocturnal pollinators such as carrion beetles and flesh flies.
