Just got back home from a nice morning birding in Kent. Very overcast as
the weather report stated, and no rain. Highlights were an American Bittern
flushed at the 212th st ponds, a Northern Shrike at Kent Ponds near the end
of the trip, and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK!

As I just got home, photos have yet to be uploaded and ebird checklist
isn't complete yet, but I'll post as soon as it's done. The hawk was seen
from the Powerline Trail, just south of the ponds, which takes you to the
south lookout tower. I saw the hawk just east of the tower, where it's
presence was only revealed because it was being harassed by several crows.
It was barely larger than them, had a short tail and dark eyes, with plenty
of streaking on the underparts. I viewed it for about 10 minutes until it
flew west, landed in another tree, then, as I looked away to review my
camera settings, it disappeared. I didn't relocate it, but it could be
hiding, originally I would have never found it if it weren't for some nosey
crows!
