After fruitlessly searching for 4+ hours around Vancouver Lake Park and
Fort Vancouver, both in Clark County, for Bohemian Waxwings yesterday, I
found one in a completely unexpected place. At 7:25 this morning, I was up
at "migration corner" on Larch Mountain and heard then saw a lone BOHEMIAN
WAXWING fly by at eye level. Thankfully I was standing in the lee of the
ridge line or else my fingers would have fallen off while using my bins -
it was cold and quite windy up there and my fingers were tingling. From
what I could tell, the waxwing either stopped only briefly or continued on
in a southeast direction. Maybe it was heading to Camas or Washougal -
also in Clark County. This was a new state bird for me!

Other than the waxwing, the only birds I saw over 90 minutes of wandering
were:

Evening Grosbeak - 40 (including one flock of 35)
Townsend's Solitaire - 1
Pacific Wren - 1 chipping from under the snow covered brush
Black-capped Chickadee - didn't want to come out
Common Raven - 7 (these were the only things that seemed to appreciate the
wind and cold, present company included)

Keep your eyes and ears skyward.
