Subject: [Tweeters] Placement of Owl Nest Boxes?

Hello all - we live in decent owl habitat just outside of town, on the edge
of a large wetland, with significant patches of surrounding intact forest,
but our land is a former dairy and most trees are not large enough yet for
cavity nesting. We are going to place 5-10 nest boxes over 3 acres in
hopes of encouraging some Saw Whet owls who we hear occasionally to settle
down and/or some Western Screech to move in. We've read a lot about nest
box placement but would love practical advice from people who have had
success with nest boxes locally. We're in south Puget Sound - Olympia area.
Give us your best tips please and we'll hope to share owl photos in the
spring. Thank you!
