Hi Tweeters and hummer lovers!

Wow, just started reading "Fastest Things on Wings - Rescuing Hummingbirds in Hollywood" and I am hooked - as if I wasn't before!

Terry Masear, the author draws you right in with feather raising scenarios of rescue and heartwarming profiles of rescuers that already has me wanting to move to Hollywood to volunteer!! She reminds me of Daphne Sheldrick, who rescues orphaned elephants in Africa, which I would also love to do, but somehow holding a hummingbird sounds a bit "easier" than a baby elephant...don't get me started.

But to that "end", does anyone out there know about any local WA hummingbird rescue/banding groups? If you read this book, I think it will tug at those heartstrings to want to get involved with these tiny creatures...guess I already am since they've nested here, left me feathers and nests, and got me through my broken foot! But think any bird would do that for me!

If anyone missed the post by Wally Davis on Jan. 28 about feeding hummingbirds, especially in winter, please read this fascinating information.

I continue to watch the fluff - they are starting to collect it now and see if I can see where they are nesting this year. Stay tuned...

PS - haven't seen the creepers in a while, but love them too!!
