I can definitely recommend this workshop, as I participated in it several years ago. As they told participants then, this workshop alone will not bring you up to being a Qualified Bander, but it will put your skills well on their way. And you get to see many of your favorite bird species up close, in hand. In some cases, you might even see a familiar bird as if for the first time -- as happened to me with the American Robin I banded.

Rocky Point Bird Observatory is hosting our annual spring bird
banding workshop in Victoria on March 25-27, 2016.

The three-day workshop will focus on bird identification, monitoring
procedures and techniques, sexing, and ageing. Components also include an
owl monitoring and banding demo and an optional session on specimen
preparation. The program has been developed for people with little or no
bird handling and/or banding experience, but those with intermediate
skills will also find the workshop a good way to build knowledge.
