Hello Tweeters!!

Sitting at the table having a late breakfast (day after my birthday...) and saw a hummer acting "funny" around a branch in our pine (MUCH lower than before). Saw it splaying it's tail and buzzing around the area and then saw it chasing a Chestnut Backed Chickadee. I kept an eye out and when it left the area, I went outside to see if I could locate the nest and sure enough, at about 15' max, I found a nest. As I walked back to the deck, where the feeders are, the chickadee came to the suet and the hummer was right there. It came near me as if to say, "Hey, can you tell him to get lost" which I did - "Please go to the other suet feeder".

Had not been seeing any activity there until today! No shuttling of fluff, but I'll be watching now. The nest did not appear to be covered in lichens yet and not sitting there, so perhaps it's not finished. It's hard to see from inside, but will try to find the best viewing angle. Very easy from the ground. Much easier on the neck!!

So excited! And while reading "Fastest Thing on Wings" - a truly fascinating book!! Got it at The Nature Shop...

Hopefully she'll be able to "nest in peace". Best gift ever!!
