Today 40 of us enjoyed a great walk at Nisqually. It was cool at the start
but warmed up into the 50s pretty quickly. We had a 4.0 low tide at 1:02 so
we had lots of mud in the reclamation area.

It was a pretty routine day with a few highlights but nothing really
special. We started with a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS at the visitor center
and had the lingering RED-SHOULDERED HAWK across the pond south of the twin
barns.

The female GREAT HORNED OWL continues to sit on the nest near the cross
over trail near the twin barns. She has been on the nest for almost 2
months now, so hopefully this is a second clutch.

We did get great looks at a COOPER'S HAWK and AMERICAN KESTRAL behind the
twin barns and saw several TREE SWALLOWS in the same area. A couple of
folks saw a VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW in with the TREE SWALLOWS but I missed
that one.

The passerines were all singing mightily so Spring can't be too far away.

For the day I had 41 species with a VARIED THRUSH being new for the year,
giving me 81 species for the year.

Mammals seen were COLUMBIAN BLACK-TAILED DEER and EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL.
