The Center for Natural Lands Management will be hosting a Bird Banding
Training Camp in May 2016 at Glacial Heritage Preserve, located in Thurston
County, WA. The training, taught by Dan Froehlich and assisted by Allison
Swan, will cover all the aspects of setting up and running a MAPS
(Measuring Avian Productivity and Survivorship) station and will provide,
as a goal, banders who can extract birds captured, record data, and perform
most aging and sexing of the common species. The focus of the course will
be on aging by wing feather patterns, sexing, and skulling with the goal of
separating adults from juveniles. The course will also cover net placement,
MAPS concept, bird handling, and data recording.

The training, which will include 6 mornings of banding and afternoon
lectures, will be held over two long weekends in late May (27-30 May) and
early June (4-6 June). The training cost depends on whether you would like
to receive a copy of the Pyle Guide, Part I (Identification Guide to North
American Birds): $450 - with guide;-$400 - without guide.
