On Sunday, Jan. 10th, I saw two ducks in the Marymore Slew viewed from the bridge just north of the main entrance to the park. I was riding on the bicycle trail and we rode onto the bridge connecting it to the trail on the opposite side of the slew. We stopped to see these diving ducks and I.D. them as Common Eiders. The other one was on the south side of the same bridge...both males. Yellow beak, black head, white chest and back, black wings..they dove and stayed down for a long time...do they also visit fresh water areas? A special moment for us...Lucille B.
