Dear Tweeters,
While patrolling Craig?s Hill (1st?5th Sts east of Chestnut) on foot scanning the Red Crossbill flocks for White-winged Crossbills, I found 2(!) Western Scrub-Jays along 2nd St between Ruby and Maple. The birds seemed fond of perching high in the evergreens and had access to peanuts from someone?s feeder. This is the same area in town where Scrub-Jays have been found in the past.

Audio recordings of the Red Crossbills show that they are type-3?s, which are, so far, the only type I?ve found in Ellensburg this Winter.

Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
