At 10:30 this a.m. the Common Redpolls were at Green, Lake flitting amongst 4 or 5 trees (not just birch) at 66th on the east side of the lake. There were around 20, I would guess. At once point a dozen of them flew down into a deciduous shrub that hung over the lake (it has clumps of fading, yellow grass in front of it) and were not 15 feet from me.

Feeling sweet success, I did a quick turn through the Fill on the way home. There was a male Canvasback well out in the bay, a few Trumpeter Swans nestled up to a far-out log, looking like big plastic bags, and I was surprised to see a Barn Swallow, which obligingly perched on the Osprey pole for a nice scope look.

A few raindrops were already falling as I left Seattle, and a big rainbow was in front of me most of the way home.
