Jim Diers and Sarah Driggs found and photographed a Black Phoebe yesterday
evening at Mukai Pond on Vashon Island. This is Vashon's first record.
Mukai Pond is west of Vashon "town." From the four way stop at the
intersection of Vashon Hwy and Bank Road, turn west onto Bank Road and go
about three quarters of a mile to 115th and turn left (south) on to 115th.
Follow the road past the end of the pavement all the way to its end and
park. On the left by an interpretive sign is a trail with a gate that goes
about 30m to the pond. The pond is drying out and sometimes the exposed mud
is good for yellowlegs and Solitary Sandpipers (though usually not until
August for the latter).
