You are fortunate to have seen them. Believe it or not, of the four species of Bobwhites, the Northern Bobwhite is actually considered "near threatened" and decreasing by IUCN. http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/22728956/0

My friend lives near the Renton Highlands & she spotted & photographed two Northern Bobwhites
yesterday! They live in a residential neighborhood with no farmlands or large tracts of land nearby so I?m
scratching my head about where they came from. Photos are available.
