Tweeters,

A beautiful morning at the JBLM Eagles Pride Golf Course, with 16 of us
enjoying 65degF temp at the start (no wind) and 76degF at the end with a
mild breeze to keep us cool. Cool, too, were the birds with the summer
doldrums taking charge: only the flycatchers and a few of the other usual
suspects singing - 34 species documented. Of note was the fact we didn't see
any American Crows, but did see three COMMON RAVENS: both unusual
occurrences. One raven at the top of a 60+ft Douglas-fir was being
repeatedly dive-bombed by a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD - talk about a size
differential! We managed to call in a juvenile and an adult MACGILLIVRAY'S
WARBLER, and heard two COMMON YELLOWTHROAT: our only warblers today. A
PIED-BILLED GREBE at the maintenance area pond (an immature bird still
sporting some striping), and one at Hodge Lake were unexpected, especially
since we've not seen this species since last November. In one rough
alongside the 4th fairway (green course), we found quite a few Great Horned
Owl feathers: we guessed that one of this year's brood didn't make it.

The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at
8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf
Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the
following:

. August 18

. September 15

. October 20

Anyone is welcome to join us!
