As previously reported I was in Alaska with John Puschock - Zugunruhe Tours - from May 28 through June 6 returning late June 7.? I spent a morning on my own near the Anchorage airport and then flew to Adak to meet the group. We birded a few hours on the Island and then were going to head out on the pelagic part of the trip but due to rough seas we stayed an extra day at Adak and then left the following day on a different course and were at sea four days.? We returned and birded an additional day in Adak and then I flew to Nome for 4 additional days with John and a couple from Minnesota.
Although the weather was very windy and gray at sea, the birding was great even though photos were challenging except for one spectacular chum stop.? It was mostly gray on Adak as well but we had great birds.
At Nome the weather was spectacular - although windy at times.? Birds were great and the Midnight Sun was CRAZY.? I would not recommend either Adak or Nome for general vacations but certainly great for birders and there were a number of birders - individuals and tour groups at both places.? I will be writing up blog?posts on the trip later and will post links but for now here is a link for s photos from the trip.? Apologies for quality for many - some definitely my fault but mostly due to wind, no sun and great distance.? Should be fun for some anyhow.??I ended up with 130 species for the trip and 16 life birds.? That total would have been more but I had been fortunate to see some of the rarities in Washington previously (Red Necked Stint, Northern Wheatear and Short Tailed Albatross).
I will be happy to share info and?thoughts.
