Tweeters,
Projected weather notwithstanding (supposed to be cold with showers), 14 of
us birded the Eagles Pride Golf Course at Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM),
and not only had fine birding, but fine weather, too (43 degF at start and
64 degF at end, with lots of sun and puffy clouds). Highlights include a
WESTERN BLUEBIRD pair (first time for a breeding pair at the course) feeding
young at a nest box on a Garry oak near the 18th green; HOODED MERGANSER
female with seven young at Hodge lake; and 8 warbler species
(ORANGE-CROWNED, MACGILLIVRAY'S, YELLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GRAY,
HERMIT, WILSON'S, and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT). 47 species (plus a couple of
"taxa") seen today.
The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at
8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf
