Dear Tweeters,
A quick (ha!) afternoon hike up the East Book Trail (park on inside (east side) of the northernmost sharp turn in the Yakima Canyon, head straight uphill) yielded a dueting pair of Western Screech-Owls! The owls were on the private property across the highway (west side) from the hike parking, and therefore inaccessible, but quite loud. This can be a surprisingly tricky owl to find in Kittitas County. Other highlights included Common Ravens and Red-tailed Hawks playing on the wind and first of the season flowers on Canby?s Desert Parsley (Lomatium canbyi, crouch low to the ground, you may not even recognize that it?s a flower!)

Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
