Christine?s request for Green Heron pictures made me think about my little green friend.

I live next to a community wildlife pond and each summer for the past few years, a Green Heron has shown up. He arrives about the end of June and stays around through September. Normally Green Herons are very shy, but mine will sit out in the open on the fence or small trees in my backyard. I have a number of feeders in the yard and he is very curious and closely watches all the bird activity. He is probably thinking there must be some food for me here somewhere.

One afternoon he was dancing along the top of the fence when I went out to the pool for a swim. I thought he would fly away when he saw me but he didn?t. As I was floating on my back, he did a low flyover close to my head. He then flew up to a top branch of a tree out by the pond and watched me intently for 5 minutes before a crow came by and chased him away.

It made me wonder if he was trying to communicate with me. My guess is that he would like me to stock the pool with fish for him.
