An eBird user can choose to check a box in their profile that makes
all their entries show up as "Anonymous eBirder". For obvious reasons
I can't say for certain, but I certainly suspect that the reports you
mentioned were made by different individuals. I don't personally do
this, but I've seen no shortage of folks who do and I think there are
plenty of reasons why someone might want to share scientific data with
eBird, but not want their name to be sent out along with it.

The theft mention is interesting though. With several break ins
happening in the Snoqualmie Valley at hotspots for a widely reported
bird was hanging out I've wondered if some enterprising criminal has
taken to watching this list to see where they might go to get some
high priced gear.
