hi everyone,

i've been republishing my work, a few pieces at a time, on Medium. This is
an advertising-free, online magazine where most of its writers (me, for
example) are unpaid volunteers. i republish my work here to make it freely
available to my readers and to protect it from anti-adblockers and
paywalls. (My Forbes work also appears here, after they release it to me.)

Since there was an earlier conversation on tweeters about a "halfsider"
woodpecker, i thought i'd grab and refomat a piece i wrote a few years ago
about "halfsiders":

If you liked it, please do give it a heart (at the bottom of the page) and
share with your friends and colleagues.

cheers,
