Though a bit chilly to start, a nice Spring day at the park. Some drizzle gave way quickly to just overcast with periods of sun, then more clouds. But, it was calm, almost glassy at times, which helped scoping on the lake. And, it was very birdy, lots of singing and frenetic activity. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but most of the regulars showed up.

Canada Goose - dozens; one was already on a nest in one of the culverts at the Entrance Pond
Hooded Merganser - a female was hanging out with a female RNDU in Promontory Pond; FOY
Red-breasted Merganser - 3 birds off the NOAA point; FOY
Horned Grebe - maybe a dozen, one already in breeding plumage
Cooper?s Hawk - adult female on Promontory Point, near last year?s nest site; adult male in the wetlands; immature female in the meadows
Virginia Rail - marsh pond north of the berms
Wilson?s Snipe - several, vocal and very active in the west meadow before dawn
Herring Gull - 1 on the platform with about 100 Mews plus a handful each of California and Ring-billed
Anna?s Hummingbird - could only relocate one nest which had one baby
Yellow-Rumped Warbler - 1 Myrtle, several Audubon?s and one likely intergrade: darker auricular and the wide ?chin grin? of a Myrtle but with a yellow center to the throat
Savannah Sparrow - several, central and east meadows; FOY

For the day, 62 species; with HOME, RBME and SAVS new, 86 species on the year.
