Hi,
Had a fun day day with lots of new birds for the year.
My highlight were c14 White Pelicans off Jensen Access this morning. I had dipped twice at Bayview State Park previously and had really given up on them. Missed the Black phoebe at the Skagit Game Ranger. but plenty of compensations. Both Dowitchers, Cinnamon Teals and FOY Yellow Warblers and Black-headed Grosbeaks.
Picked up 2 Bitterns in flight at Big Ditch.
At Camano Island by Rekdal Road, and the Lutheran Church, we saw 550 plus Whimbrel. We could not see the whole flock. A really impressive sight. Purple Martins continue in good numbers at English Boom.
An impressive number of shorebirds at Eide Road at about 2pm - near high tide I think - perhaps c800 plus birds- mostly Western Sandpipers and including 34 LB Dows and both Yellowlegs species.
Finally on Norman Road in one the few remaining flooded fields there was a Solitary Sandpiper.
As someone once said, "it was a good day".
Cheers, Steve
