Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland rare bird report. This report
was made Thursday May 12. It you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Birds noted on an offshore boat trip off southern Oregon May 4 included nine
MURPHY?S PETRELS, several PARAKEET AUKLETS, and a SOUTH POLAR SKUA. On May 7
a FRIGATEBIRD was seen floating over the town of Mosier in the Columbia
River Gorge.

Heavy migrations during the week included flycatchers, LAZULI BUNTINGS, RED
KNOTS,RUDDY TURNSTONES, and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. BROWN PELICANS are now
moving northward along the coast.

On May 11 a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was south of Newport at South Beach State
Park. Two ROCK WRENS were seen during the week on the cliff faces near the
visitor center at Yaquina Head.

A SAGE THRASHER was photographed May 1O at Ridgefield NWR. That day two
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at Ankeny NWR. A BLACK-NECKED STILT was at the
Philomath Sewage Ponds May 5. Up to 33 MARBLED GODWITS were seen during the
week at Fern Ridge Reservoir. On May 7 a FRANKLIN?S GULL, some BLACK TERNS,
and several BONAPARTE?S GULLS were at Fern Ridge. A SWAINSON?S HAWK was
there May 11. A noisy MOCKINGBIRD was seen during the week in a Springfield
Neighborhood. A possible BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was reported May 5 from Mt.
Pisqua near Eugene. Another was reported May 7 near Roseburg.
