Tweets,

Today 45 of us enjoyed a great day at Nisqually. It was clear and 55 at the
start and warmed quickly. We had a 1.3 low tide at 11:03, so only mud in
the reclamation area. Water levels are really low throughout the refuge so
waterfowl are hard to spot.

Once again we were treated to BULLOCK'S ORIOLES in the trees left of the
visitor center overlook to start the day. A bit later we had BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAK, WESTERN TANAGER and BULLOCK'S ORIOLE in the same area inside the
boardwalk at the twin barns turn off.

Also, YELLOW WARBLERS were ever present throughout the riparian areas. They
were heard and seen all along the boardwalk with a few COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
and ORANGE CROWNED WARBLERS mixed in. Trees are leafing out quickly making
spotting calling birds difficult.

We did see several RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and a single ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD (in
the orchard) as well as several CEDAR WAXWINGS.

There is an active BUSHTIT nest inside the boardwalk just past the riparian
trail turn off.

For the day I had 41 species and now have 132 for the year. Mammals seen
were GRAY SQUIRREL, COTTONTAILED RABBIT, and BLACK-TAILED DEER..

Until next week when Shep and Eric will lead in my absence.....
