Late Friday afternoon my husband and I and another couple found the
American Tree Sparrow on the cross dike trail. We spotted it first on the
trail and then watched while it popped in and out of view in the tall dried
grass off to the north side. The pale bird was a good match for the pale
grass.

On the way back to the car, I stopped to look at ducks in the sewage lagoon
and noticed motion in the background. There was a flock of several hundred
shorebirds flying back and forth along the west side of the lagoon. A nice
bonus.
