Tweeters,
Last Wednesday (pouring rain), we saw a Red Phalarope in a drainage ditch at the intersection of Fairwood Drive and Marine View Drive. This bird was flushed and chased very briefly by a crow.

Today (Saturday), we stopped by the STP and found three Red Phalaropes in the first pond (lots of Ring-necked and other ducks). Two phalaropes were swimming and one was foraging along the north edge of the pond next to the water. I also heard and spotted another Red Phalarope flying overhead when I walked along the south fence line (the STP gates were closed today).

Driving past the STP on Sportsman's Drive, we found five more Red Phalaropes in a runoff "pond" in the median.

Driving back on SR 109 to our RV spot at Pacific Beach, we found even more standing water on the road, especially near Ocean City.

Note: If it weren't for the Apple Cup on Friday, when there was a break in the rain and good weather, we would have been at Ocean Shores STP about the time Charlotte Byers made her trip. Timing is everything!

May all your birds be identified,
Denis DeSilvis
