The third annual World Shorebirds Day is Tuesday, September 6th. This commemorative day started in 2014:

To raise public awareness about the need to protect shorebirds and their habitats throughout their life cycles;
To raise public awareness about the need for ongoing shorebird research;
To connect people with shorebirds through important shorebird sites around the world;
To get shorebird enthusiasts to introduce shorebirds to more birdwatchers;
To raise awareness about the need for increased funding for shorebird research, monitoring and conservation.
The conservation activities that accompany this day are global shorebird counts that take place between September 2nd and 6th. eBirders can contribute their checklists to the count by adding the user name ?worldshorebirdsday? to each checklist during these dates. This is accomplished by adding shorebirdsday at gmail.com <mailto:shorebirdsday at gmail.com> to our contact lists. Then any checklists we create between today and Tuesday, September 6th, that contain shorebirds, can be shared with the World Shorebirds Day email address. It seems like a pretty easy way to contribute to shorebird conservation efforts over the Labor Day weekend. Good Shorebirding,
