The kind of weather we hope for and expect in September: chilly morning, but sunny and calm. The birds seemed pleased as well as there was much activity all over the park this morning. Many migrants arriving/passing through. Thanks to Willm Martens-Habbena for spotting the Harrier.

Green-winged Teal - single bird, Dead-end Pond
Common Merganser - half a dozen
Pied-billed Grebe - the juvies are full size but still begging, to each other; 2 of them wanted another juvi who had successfully caught a fish to give it up
Western Grebe - about a dozen, mid-lake
Northern Harrier - a high fly-over
Barn Owl - hunting Central Meadow, before 6
Vaux?s Swift - probably a dozen or more, over Promontory Point
Willow Flycatcher - very active, several locations; many more than have been seen during summer
Hammond?s Flycatcher - a pair near the fins
Pacific-slope Flycatcher - often with other empids
Warbling Vireo - near fins
Swanson?s Thrush - at least 8 before dawn giving night flight calls; several more
Hermit Thrush - first of fall
Cedar Waxwing - several flocks, totaling 40-ish
Orange-crowned, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Gray and Common Yellowthroat Warblers - many of each, plus single Yellow and Wilson?s
Golden-crowned Sparrow - a couple, first of fall
Lincoln?s Sparrow - several
