Subject: [Tweeters] Pelagic birds in Puget Sound

Hi Tweets,

As most of the reports have been on eBird, some people might not be aware
of the unusual push of seabirds into Puget Sound over the last week. Since
Brad Waggoner's first report of Cassin's Auklets at Point No Point a week
ago, there have been small numbers seen regularly between there and Seattle
through today. Yesterday, a Sabine's Gull was at Discovery Park. Today,
at least two Ancient Murrelets were at Discovery. There also seem to be
unusually high numbers of Rhinoceros Auklets and Red-necked Phalaropes in
the Sound right now.

Any of these birds would be somewhat unusual at this time of year or in
these numbers, but the combined pattern suggests something systematic is
driving them into the Sound. And that suggests that other seabirds
uncommon in inland waters might also turn up.

Good birding,
Matt Dufort
