Today 18 of us ignored the weather and walked Nisqually. It rained from
start to finish but it was fairly warm and not blowing sideways, so it
wasn't too bad. we had a high tide of 10.9 at 1:24 that most of us missed.

In spite of the weather it was a pretty birdy day with several FOYs
including SNOW GEESE, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, SAVANNAH
SPARROW, COOPER'S HAWK, and CLIFF SWALLOW.

The SNOW GEESE were seen flying south over the freeway early in the walk.
We all had great looks at an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in the play area next
to the orchard and at several other locations throughout the day. The
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT were in the marshes, and the SAVANNAH SPARROWS were
seen along the estuary boardwalk.

The CLIFF SWALLOWS were in a mixed flock of SWALLOWS over the pond south of
the twin barns. We also had TREE, BARN, VIOLET-GREEN, and NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS there.

The COOPER'S HAWK was in the riparian area near the twin barns. Other
raptors seen were BALD EAGLES, NORTHERN HARRIERS, and PEREGRINE FALCONS.

My punishment for not completing the entire route was s SAY'S PHOEBE the
Jon and Jay say out on the boardwalk near the first overlook. Didn't hear
about it until I was off the refuge. Rats!

The adult GREAT HORNED OWL was sitting in the trees near the nest tree but
no other activity.

For the day I had 47 species and now have 85 for the year. The only mammals
I saw were 4 BLACK-TAILED DEER.
