I think I've said this before but the 'Friends of" group at Lake Sammamish State Park and the State Park people deserve lots of credit for the changes that have happened there.? It's nice to go to a place in a lot of ways is better now than it used to be in the old days.

Delia Scholes and I and Brian Pendleton had a Black-throated Gray Warbler there today singing and seen well, and a Barn Owl that had been rousted by some Crows.? Also at the Park today were a Red-necked Grebe and a Horned Grebe, plus Pied-billed Grebes, Band-tailed Pigeon, Barn Swallow, Pileated Woodpecker and Red-breasted Sapsuckers and Common Yellowthroats, maybe four on territory, Rufous Hummingbirds, a heartening number of Tree Swallows plus some Violet-green,? plus a FOY Rough-winged Swallow or two vocalizing above the creek in from the lake, a favorite area for them. Many Yellow-rumped Warbers, many singing. Maybe 5 Purple Finch were singing, and the Great Blue Heronry seemed to be getting active.? Three or four Osprey, and vast uncountable numbers of Bald Eagles.
We didn't find a Green Heron.
In the residential zone between Squawk Mountain and the Issaquah Hobart Road we saw a Townsend's Solitaire foraging.
No Orange-crowned Warblers all day but there's been one or more at Butyl Creek here on Beacon Hill in Seattle in the last two days.
